Diablo 3 – Night 2

Creep and Void

I’m stoked, we made it through one more round of Diablo 3. Surprisingly enough, I’m still enjoying the game. I like watching the story unfold.

I’m usually an MMO player, so I don’t really play many games that have a storyline that you just kind of follow along as you go.

CrankyB (Void) is helping me keep calm even when Demon Hunter gets mobbed. It can be annoying. Especially when I hit a lag spike and it takes 5 minutes for my system to catch up. Dealing with laggy net has been an issue I’ve been dealing with for a bit now. I just have to remember to take a deep breath and focus on working around lag issues.

I also have to remember to stay back as far as I can, shoot as fast as I can and try to stay out of the way. Those seem to be my best tactics.

The skills keep getting more fun and interesting. Some you think are going to be awesome, don’t seem to live up to much until you get to add a rune to them. Others are a blast right out of the gate.

I’m looking forward to the next set of skills. Tonight though we called it off just after hitting the end of Act 1. I’m not complaining, I actually got a chance to see the end of Act 1.

The crafting system is still kind of meh, but I’m only at level 2 or so I think. It also seems to be one hell of a gold sink. That’s probably not such a big deal, I mean it drops off all kinds of stuff.

So far we haven’t crafted too many items. I’ve been stockpiling mats though, so I’m hoping that once I do see something I want to make, I’m good to go.

Sadly though I’ve had some rare stuff drop, and I’m not sure I want to replace it yet. I might though, we’ll see what happens.

Right now I’m sad I have to log out, I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Diablo 3 – Multiplayer Fun

Demensia

Lately the Diablo 3 server issues have been a right pain in the ass. Everyone’s experienced it, and no one is much of a fan of getting booted out of a game right when it’s getting good.

It’s like getting stone walled right when you’re trying to get it on. No bueno.

Even with that hassle, though, I have to admit, the server architecture of Diablo 3 is actually pretty damn sweet.

When you’re playing solo, you just don’t see it, and yes the server downtimes are a serious freakin’ hassle.

When you’re rolling multi-player though, it all comes together. Why? Because running Diablo 3 solo is a blast. Running Diablo 3 with friends is EPIC.

That and, it was an awesome way for me and my guy to celebrate our 4 month anniversary. He’s Euro, I’m US, so it’s not like we could set up a LAN. The BattleNet servers really are the best way for us to spend time together.

And what a way to spend time together!

Thing is, he wasn’t going to pick up D3 AT ALL. Mostly because it took so long for the game to actually publish. I have a copy of D3 because I signed up for the World of Warcraft Annual Pass. I played it, told him it was fun, he decided he had to try it after all. Now we’re both hooked.

I’m totally stoked he was willing to do that since it gives me a chance to blog about the multi-player side of Diablo 3. Now I actually prefer playing it multi-player over playing solo. It really is a different game when you get to throw even just one more player into the mix.

The character talents play well together. There’s more mobs. You have someone else to enjoy the map with. I mean, what’s not to love?

You don’t really see how the classes work together until you get them into a multi-player scenario. Deal is though, it can also depend on who you’re running with. It helps if you’re running with someone that you can talk to and coordinate attacks with. That actually makes all the difference in the world.

In multi-player, you kind of need that edge. The game spawns more mobs and more difficult mobs when in multi-player than in solo mode. Having more mobs to shoot at is always a win. You get more loot that way, but the game is also more challenging. I really like that, it kept me and CrankyB on our toes.

Oh and sidenote on loot. When in multi-player, the loot that you see is your loot, so there’s no loot squabbles. We can however trade if it looks like something dropped would be better for the other class. I’m loving the just loot and go aspect.

To me, the best part about multi-player is having someone to laugh with while running through the maps. There was one point where CrankyB and I finished mowing down a couple of groups and all we could do is laugh and laugh hard.

I had just mentioned that the combo we have going, CrankyB as a Witchdoctor and myself running Demon Hunter was pretty bad ass. Then a bunch of skeletons pop up out of the floor. I go “Eeeeeeek!”, we mow them, down and spend the next five minutes or so just laughing.

Between his flaming bat breath and my rapid fire arrows, we’ve been having a blast. Literally and figuratively. Though he did have me rolling when he said “shouldn’t I be called creep now?” Yeah, the Witchdoctor has a lot more creep to it than the Demon Hunter, but I just love me some swift and blinding violence. It’s just my thing.

If you get the chance to go Multi-Player in Diablo, give it a shot, it’s a blast. Not only is it more rewarding loot wise, it’s also a lot more fun to run through the maps with friends.

Not to mention that when you run with other folks you get to see and do stuff that you probably wouldn’t have on your own. I showed CrankyB that you can tear down bookcases. He showed me that you can shoot up statues.

Of course by the end of that we were wondering what the townspeople would think about us running through and further trashing the joint. Probably something like: “Heroes my ass, they just destroy damn near everything.”

Hey even a hero has to let off a little steam.

Till next time, I’ll be doing just that.

Diablo 3 – Played

My Demon Hunter in D3

I downloaded, I authenticated, and I played Diablo 3 *queue evil laughter*.

The most interesting part is that I ACTUALLY enjoyed it. Granted I didn’t get through much of the first act before I was booted from the server. *grumble mutter bitch whine moans*

It’s a lot like what I remember from watching friends play Diablo 2. I didn’t get a chance to edge into that game and didn’t have a machine that could play it back then. Fortunately times have changed and now it’s my turn to get to enjoy some creeptastic Diablo goodness. OK well maybe Diablo evilness… I’m not sure which.

I really like what Blizzard has done with Diablo 3. I was able to step right into the game and get into it. That part I really dig. There’s no advanced tutorial on how to use their user interface re-envisioned. No, oh look at how cool you’ll be at the end of the game then smacked down to null from the start, it’s just boom, right to the fun.

OK, well that is once you get past logging into BattleNet. That is kind of annoying, but as long as I have a net connection and the servers are up it’s not too bad.

On the upside, the net connection makes it really easy to play the game with anyone that might want to drop in and play. I like that. I haven’t had a chance to try it myself, yet, but me and CrankyB are planning on hopping into some games once he gets D3 installed.

In the meantime I am able to talk to any of my RealID friends in game. I like that quite a bit. Even if they’re playing other Blizzard games, as long as they have RealID support, I can see they are online and chat it up with them a bit.

Now I’m sure that everyone will be either praising or dissing the actual gameplay. Since I didn’t get to far into it before I got booted, I can’t say too much. I can say that I like the voice overs. I liked the combat. I also like being able to tear shit up.

I think I spent most of my time busting barrels, tearing down bookcases, oh and dropping every chandelier I could find. I also searched through every nook and cranny of the game as I went.

That’s the awesome part about Diablo, it pays to poke around.

Diablo 3 lives up to the creep factor too. The way some of the mobs work, at least so far is pretty awesome. I mean explodie mobs, things that crawl at you, it’s all awesome.

So far I’ve only been able to try out the Demon Hunter. I’ve only wanted to play one since the trailer was released for the Demon Hunter who knows how long ago now. I’m stoked that I finally have a chance to try it out. I really like it. The Demon Hunter is just my style, swift and blinding violence. What’s not to love?

While I’m no Diablo pro, I did really enjoy what little I’ve been able to get into so far and I’m looking to play more.

If you get a chance to try Diablo 3, I say go for it.

Newbie Blogger Initiative – So You Think You Can Blog

So you think you have what it takes to be a blogger? You’re willing to put your work out there for all the world to read, flame or ignore?

Grats

I’m here to give you some tips on how to do it the Creep way. Granted, if you do things as I do them, chances are you’re walking into a pit of fail from which there is no escape. BUT! I’m willing to put my two cents out there.

I started this blog to work on web development. I just wanted to experiment with setting up and working with a blog engine. Creeping was originally published on a C# blogging engine, eventually migrated from there to a much simpler to use and modify WordPress blogging engine. I prefer WordPress and say use the hell out of it. It’s flexible and if you’re willing to learn a little php you can do a lot with it.

The web language php really isn’t too bad, trust me.

As for how you get served this fabulous content? I go for the private hosting option. Yeah I have to pay for my blog to be ignored by the world at large, but I have more freedom to post whatever I want. Also it usually isn’t blocked by IT gurus trying to keep you from reading gaming blogs at work.

I also control whether or not there is any advertising on my site. You’ll find none.

Granted that means I make no money from my site. BUT…. I am also beholden to no one. So whatever you see me saying about this game or that, is strictly because I wanted to say it, not because anyone gave me anything or because I was given a kickback.

Come on, who’s going to pay a Creep? Hell I’m pretty sure that most of the world still thinks I’m a dude. I’m down with that it gives me a chuckle.

If you want to go the free route, though, go for it. I mean if you’re not sure that you want to invest in a blog, check out Blogger or WordPress. You’ll get your money’s worth, and if you sign up for Adsense with Google, you might even get some coffee monies if people clicky clicky on ads that pop up on your blog.

You get some theme flexibility, which means you get to tweak how it looks so you can make it an obnoxious orange if you so choose. Also you can usually opt buy your own URL and you can have people navigate to “whatever-game-I-love.com” and get away with it. There of course YOU get to rant to your heart’s content, that’s always bonus. Keep in mind however you do have to follow your hosting provider’s terms of service.

Some blog providers are strict, some aren’t. Remember to take a look at your terms of service before you start posting language most foul, that should usually keep you from ending up on someone’s naughty list, and I don’t mean Santa.

I however, can cuss it up, rip it up, and post whatever I want to rant, whenever. The only terms of service you get here is reader beware. Once again, that’s where buying your own hosting helps.

Granted you want to watch some of your language, or you end up with some REALLY interesting spam. Ask Scarybooster.

Be persistent. I haven’t been a faithful blogger, but Creeping has been in operation since October 2008. While I don’t post as much as I should, I do love blogging mostly because I like to look back on what I’ve done in games, and also because it gives me a place to rant about the industry that pulls all the strings on my games.

That won’t make you popular. I can’t tell you how to be popular. I’m a geek, I don’t do popular.

Lastly and most importantly, remember that you write for your reader. Make it easy to read and translate into multiple languages where possible. Do a little editing, and remember, thanks to Google cache, whatever you write is going to be out there… possibly for as long as there’s a net.

So don’t be a total dumb ass cause it’ll come back to bite you. Post your own content, don’t pretend to be something your not just to get pings, and you might not want to flame people. That usually doesn’t go over well. Sure you can get away with it, cause it’s the net and trolls get great ratings. But you know what, the blog community is made up of some great folks. Be nice to them and they’ll serve as a great resource for years to come.

Best of luck to you, and if you do keep up with this, and want to drop me a link, hit me up, my e-mail is creep at the url above. That or check out Twitter, Facebook or Google+. I’m on all of those places too, though they make me use my real name there.

Till next time, I’m going to be hunting Frostweave *groans* take it easy.

Newbie Blogger Initiative

Ever considered blogging? I mean, even blogging on GAMES?

Well if you are curious about it, congratulations, this month is totally for you. Creeping and 70 other blogs will be churning out info over the course of this month (May) to give you the 411 on how to get your Blog on.

Yes I said it, just roll with it.

So how did I get sucked into the Blogsphere? Well thing is I got into blogging years ago and went through several blog styles, topics and engines before settling down here at Creeping. I’ve been here ever since.

This blog is self hosted and runs on the WordPress Blog engine. Which basically means that I can post whatever the hell I want and no one can tell me otherwise. I’m not at the whim of any game, any sponsor, or any one. I post what I want, when I want. And once in a while I blow up my blog because I’ve been conducting web experiments.

I keep writing my blog because I have some folks that enjoy reading it and because I’ve made blog friends that inspire me to write posts. Granted I’m one of the worst bloggers on the planet in that I skip from game to game and post on a when I feel like it basis. It is what it is.

Now, if YOU want to find out more about what it is to be a game blogger and get all net famous, take a look at the Newbie Blogger Initiative forum. Register, log in, and get your read on.

Till next time, I’m gonna be digging in trash.

Yes I’m back in Fallen Earth.
